The National Assembly adopts Bill for free quota for higher education

On Tuesday, the National Assembly approved a bill that required a 25% quota for free university education for deserving students across the country, Express News reported.

Parliament’s lower house passed two important legislative pieces, where the highlight was a new law that requires universities to award 25% of their seats for free education to financially deserving students.

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MNA Agha Rafiullah called for the inclusion of a 25% quota for free education in the Department of Science and Technology Bill specifically for deserving and high-performance students. The change was approved by the Assembly.

However, a change was proposed by the Jamat Disadvantaged disadvantage (Jui) MNA Aliya Kamran, who opposed the bill due to the fact that education falls under provincial jurisdictional rejected.

After the passage of the bills, the National Assembly Session was postponed until 1 p.m. 11am the following day.
