- Polestar reveals its latest 5 model at the IAA Mobility Show
- Grand Tourer remains true to the amazing Precept -Concept
- But owners will have to satisfy a “virtual” rear window
After much teasing and undoubtedly one of the best -looking concept cars in 2024, Polestar has finally taken the wrapping of his rather beautiful polestar 5 Grand Tourer.
Clearly created to tackle the mighty Electric Super Sedance from Porsche, Audi, BMW and Lucid, Polestars 5 come in two different flavors – both of which sporting very impressive statistics.
The double motor launch edition, which costs £ 89,500 / AU $ 187,000 (about $ 120,000), has a 112kWh battery pack that is good for 416 miles on a single charge, while the potent driveline kicks out 737BHPs and 812nm twisting torque for a 0-62MP Sprint time of only 3.9 seconds.
Customers can mark the ‘Go Faster’ box and choose a performance -launch version that costs an extra £ 15,400 / AU $ 23,100, but looks the output increase for an inevitable 871BHP and 1,015nm torque. Rest to 62 km / h takes 3.2 seconds, but range drops to 351 miles.
These kinds of numbers look like it is lurking in the same high performance pool as the Porsche Taycan Turbo S and GT, as well as the Audi E-Tron GT models, where the launch edition improves both when it comes to electric range.
As you would expect from a modern Premium EV, an 800V electric architecture is in place to support the quick charge of Monster 112kWh battery packages. Polestar says it can charge from 10-80% of approx. 20 minutes from 350 kW business.
They were designed predominantly with four people in mind, the front seats were designed in collaboration with Racing Specialist Recaro, while the sculpted rear teeth offer plenty of room for two adults, with a lovely armrest in the middle. You can probably push a fifth little person in if you have to.
The Swedish Marque has maximized rear ceiling height by moving the rear main structure backwards and – stiffening you – getting rid of the rear window. It is true that it will contain the same camera -based rear view system as Polestar 4, which shared opinion.
Inside, Polestar sticks with the same Android Automotive operating system that offers live route planning through Google Maps and all kinds of downloadable apps on a smooth 14.5-inch portrait display.
Polestar 5 is also capable of semi-autonomous driving functionality thanks to its package of cameras, radars and ultrasound sensors. It offers its pilot assistant cruise control at speeds of up to 93 km / h … if you like faster tickets.
The most ‘polestar’ polestar yet
The crispy exterior styling, minimalist interior and monster performance figures make Polestar 5 feel that the car the brand has itching to do.
After all, the company was formerly the service arm for Volvo and hit the market with a smell as it launched the high-powered hybrid with manually adjustable ohlin-suspension in the form of polestar 1.
Since then it has found success with the slim polestar 2 and the newer 3 and 4 SUVs, but none of them have crossed all the boxes to run enthusiasts. The Swedish Marque hopes the 5 will do such a thing.
While it is likely to be a huge volume seller, given the fact that it costs so much, the Polestar 5 will undoubtedly act as a Halo product to attract new ones to the brand.
It has experienced strong sales in recent months with a 51% increase in the second quarter of 2025 compared to the previous year.
