- Sigma’s minimalist bf is processed from a single piece of aluminum
- It has Sigma’s L-Mounting and a 24MP frame sensor with 6K video
- There is only 230 GB of internal storage and no memory card castle
Sigma has clearly had fun designing her new BF-frame mirror-free camera and stripes the user experience back to the basics. It is made in Japan, but adopts Scandinavian minimalist design and then sets out ante.
As Sigma writes, BF is a “radically simple camera that induces the essence of photography”. This is no boring black box with a full frame sensor that we tend to come from Sony, Canon, Nikon and Panasonic-It is actually somewhat radically different, and I respect Sigma for its boldness, although BF can be easy on the eye over practical in hand.
BF must be as hard as they come – it is processed from a single piece of aluminum, a process that Sigma says takes over seven hours. It measures only 5.1 x 2.9 x 1.4in / 130.1 x 72.8 x 36.8 mm and tip the scales at 15.7 oz / 446g (with battery) and accepts L-Mount lenses, of which There are many, which makes it suitable as an everyday camera.
There are two colors to choose from: silver or black. Next to the camera, Sigma revealed silver versions of its I-series of modern lenses to match the appearance of the silver setting. The camera’s list price is $ 1,999 / £ 1,969, which is rather competitive in view of the materials and crafts involved. We will update this article with Australia Pricing when we get that info.
Within its slim exterior, Sigma BF houses a full-frame 24MP sensor with 6K video features and an electronic shutter-there is no mechanical shutter. A scan of the camera’s features suggests that Sigma BF looks pretty Panasonic Lumix S9, which is another compact mirror -free camera with full frame.
I tested the Lumix S9 and I felt that Panasonic had made a compromise for many in the service of keeping things simple for me to really enjoy his handling (though a firmware update improved cases something), and Sigma’s BF is even simpler. I haven’t had my hands on the camera yet, but I’ve already developed a few thoughts.
It’s bold, exciting – and limited
Two sigma -lenses also added to the collection
Next to the BF camera, Sigma revealed two lenses; 300-600mm F4 DG OS to cameras in full frame and 16-300mm F3.5-6.7 DC OS for APS-C cameras. The 300-600 mm professional lens costs $ 5,999 / £ 5,899, while 16-300mm is the world’s first mirror-free lens with 18.8x optical zoom, and costs $ 699 / £ 599. Both lenses are sent in April. Again, Australia is pricing TBC.
I fully respect that in order to create a radically simple camera, some features must go. I also write as an experienced photographer who is used to enjoying the number and different controls offered by complex cameras, although a personal favorite is the wonderfully simple hazel blade x2D 100c. But I can already sense that Sigma BF is a camera that I will enjoy looking at more than shooting with.
For me, the challenge of using BF will compose images. There are no seekers who are a big minus to me as BF is a photography of the first camera. This is composed of 3.15-inch 2.1 m dot touch screen, which is fast-you cannot turn it out or turn it around for easy viewing at awkward angles.
Such restrictions are the price we pay for a radically minimalist camera. Still, I’m fascinated by Sigma BF and it could be one of 2025’s standout cameras. I love how its menus and check stripped back to what you have the most setting. Check out Sigma’s YouTube video below to take a closer look at how the controls work.
Around the sides and underside there is just a single loop for a wrist strap, a tripod mounting, a removable battery and a USB-C port; No other gates for headphones and microphone inputs. This is as simple as it comes. In fact, there is not even a memory card castle – instead there is only 230 GB of internal stock.
I don’t mind any of these omissions, nor do I mind the slim in front of no grip. After all, this is a camera designed for small lenses and for everyday photography.
For me, it is the lack of viewing and firm rear screen that are dealbreakers. What do you think of the new Sigma BF? Tell me that in the comments below.
