- A rumored PS5 Slim Digital Edition -Revision could be on the horizon
- It will allegedly reduce storage capacity from 1 TB to 825 GB
- Potential causes may include avoidance of another price increase
PlayStation 5 Slim is reportedly receiving another new audit, and if real, it can significantly undermine one of the console’s most notable improvements over the BASIC 2020 model.
French Outlet Dealabs reports that the next PS5 Slim Digital Edition Audit, the ‘Chassis E’, may have reduced storage capacity compared to the version we have now. In addition, it is reported that price points remain the same, at least for European markets where the console is currently priced at € 499.
Dealabs claims that storage capacity will be reduced to 825 GB (down from 1 TB) for this new revision. However, it also states that the change will only affect the PS5 Slim Digital Edition; The model, which includes disk drives, seems as if it will not be affected and preserve the flat 1 tb space.
For the moment, it is important to note that the change seems to be visible only on the European model, with dealabs indicating a ‘825 GB’ label, is visible on the packaging. Similar PS5 Slim Digital Edition console revisions for the US markets and British markets have not yet been seen.
If these reports are true, they completely delete one of the original PS5 Slim’s major sales outlets. It was originally launched in 2023 with a clean 1 tb storage space, up from the 2020 model’s 825 GB.
With its price point, which otherwise remains the same in Europe, it is speculated that a reduction in storage capacity can be a means of Sony to avoid another price increase for the console.
It goes without saying that you need to take this information with a pinch of salt at the moment before Sony officially confirms anything. But dealabs have been a reliable source of consolin formation in the past, so the odds are that the information may well be legitimate.
So if you were planning to pick up a PS5 Slim Digital Edition in the near future, you may want to act now, in case this reported storage reduction is adopted worldwide.
