- Season 3 is seen as the final part of The Night Manager trilogy

Fans of The night manager – or indeed, fans of Tom Hiddleston, who turns in a career-best role as slick secret agent Jonathan Pine – will be pleased to know that after a 10-year gap between seasons 1 and 2, a third series has been ordered and will come sooner than that.
But there’s even better news now that the show’s writer – David Farr – has confirmed that there won’t be a decade between seasons. talking with Esquiresaid Farr: “There’s definitely a sense of urgency this time. We’re not going to wait 10 years.”
Season 2 of the John le Carré-created character became a record-breaking show for the BBC when it aired in January 2026. The first episode received 8.7 million views in 28 days, making it the biggest debut drama episode since 2023.
With S2 primarily set in Colombia, Pine faced adversaries in the form of arms dealer, crime boss Teddy Dos Santos (Diego Calva), his girlfriend Roxy (Camila Morrone), and some old enemies from the past showing up to surprise him. But with the series ending with some shock deaths and a cliffhanger, here’s everything you need to know about The night manager season 3; including release date, cast and potential plot.
The Night Manager Season 3: Release Date
As mentioned, time is of the essence for this season; especially as viewers were left wondering if Jonathan Pine would survive his showdown in the Colombian jungle. But writing and shooting the new series is going to be time-consuming, so we can imagine that we’re unlikely to see it on screens before 2028.
As for what stage production has reached by February 2026, Farr said Esquire: “We’re going and then my mouth is shut. I’m not allowed to say anything. We’re in the writing process and excited to finish the story because it’s going to be the last of this particular thing.”
The Night Manager season 3: expected cast
Season 2 spoilers ahead!
While there are no confirmed castings at the moment, it’s easy to make a good guess as to who will return. Although Pine was last seen staggering, badly wounded, out of the guerilla headquarters, it’s pretty inconceivable that they’ll kill him off, so it’s safe to assume that Hiddleston will be back as his iconic secret agent in Season 3.
The same goes for old Dickie Roper (Hugh Laurie) and his son, Danny (Noah Jupe). At the end of season 2, after his nefarious plans fell through, Roper was seen picking Danny up from school, presumably to integrate him into the family’s gun business.
Farr told Weekly entertainment: “The only thing I will say is that Roper’s other son, Danny, who was in the last scene of the second season… I think Noah Jupe is a very special young actor. And I think there’s more to come for him as a character, and I’m looking forward to that.”
Evil River House boss Mayra Cavendish (Indira Varma) got away with literal murder in this series, despite coming so close to being exposed for the villain that she is; so she will definitely make a comeback. At Cavendish, Farr said Radio Times that the next chapter will delve deeper into “what really drives her” and suggested that she would be a key character. He added: “I think you have some indications – ambition and patriotism, I think, are both clearly present in what she’s about. But I think there’s a lot more to come from her.”
Pine’s chief assistant Sally (Hayley Squire) is also likely to play a key role in the mission to bring Roper down again – Farr shared Black that he has a “strong desire” for Sally’s return. He called Sally a “really exciting and beautiful” character and said bringing her back would be a great way to honor Angela.
Speaking of Angela Burr (British national treasure Olivia Colman), well, unless it’s in flashbacks, she’s not going to appear as she was brutally murdered in front of her young daughter in the French countryside in the final episode of Season 2.
The same goes for Teddy, although the TeddyPine chemistry was an undeniable hit with fans, there were screams that rang out across the world when viewers saw Roper murder his own son in cold blood. So unfortunately that means it’s also a no for Diego Calva’s return to the cast.
The return of one former cast member has not yet been ruled out, which is Roper/Pine’s ex-boyfriend Jed (Elizabeth Debicki), who both characters discussed in an episode in Season 2. When Esquire asked the writer if they had approached her yet about a possible return, Farr said, “No, we haven’t yet.” It “yet” does some heavy lifting…
Other guest stars and cameos will be announced over time and we will keep you updated on who they are.
The Night Manager season 3: potential plot
The end of season two sets everything up nicely for the final part of the trilogy: with Roper continuing his insane plans to arm guerilla gangs, cause political upheaval and instability, and profit from all the misery. Classic Roper! But after he murdered his illegitimate son in Colombia, who was running everything he ran and fixed, he needs a new son to groom to take his place, and unfortunately it looks like it’s going to be Danny.
There’s also not just Burr’s murder to be avenged – Pine doesn’t yet know she’s been killed, so the revelation and grief over that act will definitely play a big part of s2 – but cast your mind back to just before Burr is shot in the last episode; she tells Pine on a voicemail that she’s been “digging into some files and there’s something beyond Roper, there’s a bigger game plan, and I have the name …”
Farr points out that that murder takes place “days” after her own showdown with Cavendish, but she spent her last days on Earth well as “in that time, and I’m afraid you’ll have to wait for season three, but in that time she’s not idle.” So it’s fair to assume that Season 3 will be Pine unmasking the person who is Roper’s overlord (and hopefully finally seeing Roper’s coming).
The Night Manager: the future
Farr has previously said he is watching The night manager as a trilogy series, adds to Esquire that: “It will be the last of this particular thing.”
When asked if he thinks there is life beyond the trilogy, he said, “That would be a different conversation. It’s not one I’m interested in at the moment.”
But given the great international success The night manager seasons 1 and 2, it’s not hard to see the BBC and Amazon requesting even more follow-up series. What does it look like? All we can do is wait…
