- A mention of GPT-4.5 is just shown in Android
- It suggests that a full launch can be imminent
- Right now the model cannot be accessed
While Openai has not relaxed in pushing new features for chatgpt users, we are still waiting patiently for the next upgrade to the GPT-4o model that was pushed out last year and wait may soon be over.
Users of the Chatgpt Android app have seen (via the Android police) a mention of a “GPT-4.5 research example” in a pop-up alarm inside the app, which sounds to us as the next version of Chatgpt’s underlying model.
However, tapping on the guard is not doing anything at the moment, nor does it appear for all Android users. It suggests that this is something that has been leaning out earlier than it should have.
Although we do not get an official debut date for GPT-4.5 here-and-Openai has not yet said very publicly about its launch-pointing slip-up on the Android app to the model arriving before rather than later, at least in preview form.
What could GPT-4.5 bring?
I just got this on the Android app! I think it’s a big one but 4.5 seems imminent pic.twitter.com/pdzcak5ikiktFebruary 26, 2025
Openai CEO Sam Altman recently went on the record to say that GPT-4.5 would be the last independent model released by the company, with future releases that combine all the available models (including the O-series reasoning models) for a single package.
What it will bring, we can expect the usual progress of accuracy, coding, mathematics, summary. Larger context windows – basic lengths, basically – can be supported, and wider contextual consciousness is also a strong option.
However, this will only be an advance of 0.5: GPT-5 must be a major upgrade, although it is unlikely to be launched this year. It should see all Chatgpt’s tools packed, including features such as the recently revealed Deep Research Mode.
We can expect GPT-4.5 to be exclusive to paying chatgpt users before it goes down to free users. Meanwhile, Openai’s many rivals in AI show no signs of slowing down with their own releases.
