Karachi: The provincial Ombudsman Sindh has ordered the removal of K-ELECTRIC CEO (CEO) Moonis Alvi from his position after finding him guilty of harassing a female employee.

Justice (R) Shahnawaz Tariq, who serves as provincial ombudsman for protection against harassment against women in the workplace, also imposed a fine of RS2.5 million on Alvi. The fine must be paid within a month.

According to the order, the complainant was exposed to harassment and mental distress by KE CEO.

If Alvi does not comply with the order, the Ombudsman has instructed the authorities to freeze his moving and motionless assets.

His [Moonis Alvi] CNIC and passport can also be blocked if the fine is not paid, the decision says.

The judgment is handed down under protection against the harassment of women in the Workplace Act.

‘Deeply worrying’

In the reaction to the verdict, Moonis Alvi called the judgment as “deeply worrying” and said the conclusions do not reflect his experience of the events. KE CEO said he is reviewing the decision with legal adviser and advertising to submit an appeal.

“I respect the legal process and the institutions that maintain it,” he said. “But in good conscience, I have to reject the conclusions as inaccurate.”

He said the case has been personal and professionally painful, adding that he remains obliged to pursue the truth through all legal ways.

“In the meantime, I remain grateful for the support of those who know me who have worked with me and who believe in proper process. My respect for the principles of justice and the dignity of the workplace remains unwavering,” he said.

Alvi joined the Power Distribution Company in 2008 and has had key roles in the organization as CFO, company secretary and head of the Treasury before his appointment as CEO in 2018.

The Board of Directors of K-electric (KE) recently appointed him as CEO.

“At its meeting, the Board of Directors held on July 7, 2025, re-named Syed Moonis Abdullah Alvi as CEO of K-electric with effect from July 30, 2025,” read the KE press release.
