- OnePlus has launched the OnePlus Turbo series
- Highlights include 9,000 mAh batteries and high refresh rates
- These cheap gaming phones have only been announced for China so far, but there may be a global launch later
After a tease last month, the OnePlus Turbo 6 and OnePlus Turbo 6V have now been fully revealed, and they look to deliver impressive battery life and gaming capabilities at a fairly low price.
Both phones have 9,000 mAh batteries, which means they even have the 7,300 mAh OnePlus 15 beat there. They can also both charge up to 80W, and despite having such high-capacity batteries, they are only 8.5 mm thick.
They also both have significant water resistance, including IP66, IP68 and IP69 ratings, giving them resistance to splashes, submersion and high-pressure, high-temperature water jets. For cameras, they both have a 50MP main snapper, a 2MP monochrome one and a 16MP front-facing camera.
A difference in power
However, many of the other specifications differ between the two phones, with the OnePlus Turbo 6 being the higher end model. This has a Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset, up to 16GB of RAM and includes a Fengchi Game Kernel which can help games reach 165fps. It also has up to 512GB of storage and a 6.78-inch display with a 165Hz refresh rate.
The OnePlus Turbo 6V instead has a Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset, up to 12GB of RAM, up to 512GB of storage and a 6.78-inch screen with a 144Hz refresh rate.
So neither model is particularly high-end aside from the battery and display specs, but with those high-capacity batteries, high refresh rates and – in the case of the OnePlus Turbo 6 – game-enhancing Fengchi Game Kernel, they should be solid gaming phones.
Right now, these phones are only confirmed for China, where the OnePlus Turbo 6 starts at CNY 2,300 (approx. $330 / £245 / AU$490) while the 6V starts at CNY 1,900 (approx. $270 / £200 / AU$410), so these phones could be very affordable elsewhere.
That said, while it’s possible they’ll get a global launch later, as is often the case with OnePlus devices, there’s no guarantee. So for now, you might want to check out our list of the best gaming phones if you’re looking for a new handset to play on.
