The Sindh Assembly, in its session on Tuesday with Deputy Speaker Naveed Anthony in the chair, rejected a resolution moved by the opposition on the occasion of the Private Members’ Day on setting up a commission to improve the quality of education in the province.
The House also rejected the opposition’s resolution on corruption and irregularities in the Sindh Public Service Commission. However, resolution put forward by MQM’s female member to establish an autism center and a center for training in autism treatment was unanimously approved.
During the proceedings in the house, it was also decided that the adjournment motion by Pakistan People’s Party member Heer Soho regarding the unannounced load shedding of electricity in Sindh will be discussed for two hours next Friday.
During the question-and-answer session, Leader of Opposition Ali Khursheed expressed displeasure after not getting a satisfactory answer from Social Welfare Minister Tariq Talpur. He said that PPP has been in power in Sindh for 16 years.
MQM member Rashid Khan presented a resolution regarding alleged corruption and irregularities in the Sindh Public Service Commission. Opposing the decision, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Ziaul Hassan Lanjar said that this issue has been discussed. Many matters in this regard are carried out according to the directions of the court.
MQM member Amir Siddiqui presented his private resolution regarding the setting up of a commission related to the education standards of the province.
This decision was also opposed by the Parliamentary Affairs Minister saying that Sindh Education Policy Commission already exists in the province so what is the need for another commission?
MPA Fauzia Hameed tabled a resolution to establish an autism center and a center for training in autism treatment, which was unanimously approved with the support of government members and the opposition.
Minister of Health Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho said it is an important issue and the decision will be a boon to children suffering from autism as well as to their families. She said these children can also get vocational training.
During the question and answer session, Provincial Minister for Social Welfare Tariq Talpur answered various written and supplementary questions from the members and told the house that his department monitors the activities of the NGOs. There is a procedure for providing financial assistance to NGOs and how to take disciplinary action against NGOs involved in illegal activities or corruption.
MQM member Taha Ahmed asked the minister to point out five projects of which the Sindh government can be proud.
Provincial Minister for Social Welfare Tariq Talpur said that we are working in Karachi with ANF and we are also doing good work in other districts. In addition to this, the department also works for transgender people.
