The original Dyson Bladeless fan just got a long-awaited renewal and it looks better than ever

  • Dyson Cool FC1 is an upgrade of the original Dyson Cool countertop fan
  • Same powerful, leafless design and air multiplica technology
  • Adding night mode, multiple setting settings and a useful LCD screen

The original Dyson Cool was the world’s first leafless fan, and the catalyst for many of the brand’s aircare research coming. Now, 16 years later, the brand has released several new products in this area with increasingly advanced features, but Dyson Cool has not seen an upgrade. Until now.

The next General Model Small The Dyson Cool CF1 has the same powerful air flow and slim, leafless design, but adds some useful features and ease of use to bring it in line with the rest of the best fans on the market. It’s not as big or splashy as some of the brand’s other launches, but it delivers exactly what I want from a countertop.

So what’s new? First, you have more customization options to play with. The Oscillation settings have been expanded – you can now choose between 15, 40 and 70 degrees of oscillation (or no oscillation at all) – and you now also have 10 fan speeds to play with.

Dyson has added a night mode that automatically dims the screens and adjusts the fan speed, to cool that helps you drop, rather than being distracting. It is combined with a new sleep hour that turns off the tab when you are (hopefully) happy away in the nod. There is also an LCD screen that shows at a moment what state you are in and which air flow setting you are using.

Elsewhere, there is still an energy efficient, brushless DC engine, and it uses Dyson’s patented ‘Air Multiplier’ technology, which can apparently reinforce the air around it by up to 13 times. As with all Dyson fans, there are no blades, which means smooth and even air flow, and a design that is more secure and far easier to keep clean. (However, you cannot use it to make yourself sound like a robot.)

There is no air purification (or heating or wetting) features, as shown in other Dyson fans in the wider range. Dyson Cool FC1 is completely focused on effective personal cooling.

“The original Bladeless fan revolutionized the way we think of Airflow and combined advanced technique with slim, safe and effective design,” said Logan Thomson, Dyson Design Engineer. “This latest iteration is based on these core benefits of introducing modern upgrades as intelligent features, including hibernation, to meet the requirements of today’s customers.”
