Sony has announced that it is closing its PlayStation Stars loyalty program after three years.
In a new PlayStation blog post, the company confirmed that PlayStation stars will shut down and will no longer accept new members from today.
Those who choose to cancel their membership will not be able to join and lose all the points earned.
“Since the launch of the program, we have learned a lot by evaluating the types of activities that our players respond best to, and as a company we always develop with player and industry trends,” Sony said.
“Through this evaluation, we have decided to focus our efforts and run the current version of the PlayStation Stars. We will continue to evaluate our central findings from this program and investigate ways of building these experiences.”
Although the reward program is shutting down, members can still serve digital collectibles, points and smooth their status until July 23, 2025 at. 07:59 PDT / 3:59 PM BST / 23:59 PM JST.
After this date, no new PlayStation Stars campaigns will be available or additional rewards or status benefits to earn.
Sony said “this version” of PlayStation stars fully ends on November 2, 2026, but it is unclear whether the company plans to release another version of the loyalty program.
It also said that the current PlayStation star members can continue to redeem points as long as their points do not expire before that date and that members can still access their digital collectibles, even after these changes come into force.
The program was made available to PS5 and PS4 in 2022 and rewards players with residual loyalty points that can be redeemed for various digital treats after conducting various challenges, such as unlocking a specific trophy or playing a game on your system.
