- The PS5 Pro is flying off (virtual) shelves at Amazon in the US
- This comes on the back of Sony’s announcement of a large price increase
- The PS5 Pro will soon cost $150 / £90 more than it does now
Last week, Sony announced that it would raise the price of all its PlayStation consoles and many key accessories on April 2, 2026.
In a PlayStation Blog post that blamed “continued pressures in the global economic landscape” for the move, the company revealed that the price of a PS5 will rise by $100 / £100 to $649.99 / £569.99 (up from $549.99 / £479.99), while the PS5 Digital Edition will cost $99 / £9.99 instead of the PS5 Digital Edition. $499.99 / £429.99.
One of the biggest jumps was the price of a PS5 Pro, with Sony’s already expensive console reaching $899.99 / £789.99, up from $749.99 / £699.99.

It should perhaps come as no surprise that gamers are flocking to online retailers to get their hands on the console at the current rate that the PS5 Pro is climbing Amazon’s bestseller list in the video game category in the US.
Right now, it’s actually the most popular PlayStation model at the retailer, narrowly beating the standard PS5 console and marked as the number one best seller in PlayStation 5 consoles when added to your cart.
If you head over to the PlayStation subreddit, you can already see plenty of new PS5 Pro owners discussing their purchase. “After hearing about the latest price hikes scheduled for April 2, I went ahead and pulled the trigger,” said one savvy shopper.
“I was on the fence but was leaning heavily towards a buy before GTA 6 and Sony went over and forced my hand.”
For our money, the PS5 Pro is one of the best gaming consoles out there today – but it’s undeniably a specialist piece of kit designed for the most dedicated PlayStation enthusiasts.
Our PS5 Pro review highlighted its “glorious” performance and the “new level of immersion and beauty” it brings to gaming, although it noted that these improvements “aren’t hugely transformative” compared to a generational leap like the one between PS4 and PS5.
