The relationship between Pakistan and the United States strained by complete silence

More than two weeks after President Donald Trump took responsibility for the White House, there has been no formal contact between Pakistan and the new administration yet. Official sources told The Express Pakinomist on Tuesday that the two countries had been in contact through the usual diplomatic channels, but there had been no direct contact with the Trump administration. The lack of direct contact shows Pakistan is no longer a priority for the new Trump administration. Pakistan was once known as the most allied allies of the United States, and regular interactions between the two capitals were routine. Over the past few years, however, things have changed to the extent that the new US president is not even talking to Pakistani leaders. The trend was set by former President Joe Biden, who during his four -year period never spoke to any of the Pakistani prime ministers. His State Secretary Anthony Blink also never traveled to Islamabad despite the fact that he often visited the region. President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif were quick to congratulate President Trump with his dedication. Prime Minister Shehbaz even wrote a letter to Trump and expressed Pakistan’s desire to elaborate on bilateral cooperation between the two countries. Similarly, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar cracked his American colleague Marco Rubio. But the new administration has not yet responded to any of the courtesy extended by Pakistani leaders. Trump administration officials have not yet made any explicit statement of Pakistan, but certain decisions made by the US president have consequences for the country. Pakistan was among the countries affected by President Trump’s executive order sought a break in foreign aid. Apart from Israel and Egypt, the Trump administration suspended foreign aid programs to conduct a review to ascertain whether such funding was in line with the US foreign policy agenda. Pakistan hoped the break was temporary and the United States would soon resume USAID programs. The second Trump decision, which has a direct impact on Pakistan, was his executive order to stop the Afghan refugee development program. The new US administration suspended the Special Immigration Visa and Afghan Refugee Admissions program for 90 days. Pakistan is currently hosting about 25,000 Afghans to be moved to the United States. All such Afghans worked for the US military and other US contractors during their campaign in Afghanistan. They were promised us visas when their lives were in danger of the Taliban rule. The Foreign Office spokesman for the first time last week revealed that during the event reached with the Biden administration, the process of moving all such Afghans had to end in September 2025.
