Any Spanish government’s wiretaps performed by law enforcement authorities will soon be administered by Chinese Telecom giant Huawei thanks to a recent WON contract.

Sectors of the National Police in Spain have become troubled with Huawei’s commitment to sensitive systems, with sources expressing concerns about strategic disagreements with regard to China and the state’s access to data and a potential threat to national security.
Huawei points out that no back door has ever been identified within its telecommunications equipment, and the company claims it would not answer CCP requests for intelligence, nor will it be used to spy (unless you count government wiretapping contracts).
Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has been one of the least fight against Huawei’s presence, where Spain remained a close partner in the EU for the company – which has several contracts with public administrations.
Interestingly, the recent shopping, unlike Spain’s de facto ban on the Chinese Telecom giant from all critical infrastructures, comes after reducing Huawei’s presence in 5G kernels in the largest three Spanish operators to 0%, according to Euronews.
The European and US governments have increasingly distanced themselves from Chinese technology companies in recent months, primarily with reference to national security concerns and the threat of ex -filtered data.
An ongoing US -China trade war has seen companies on both sides cut off from the opposite market, with market leaders such as Chipmaker Nvidia saying that US tariffs mean it is facing a hit of several billion dollars.
