The wills is the next Margaret Atwood book to be adapted to the small screen. That’s the sequel to one of the best hulu shows The Handmaid’s Tale, Then will be a continuation of the story as the book it is based on.
Back in 2017, when a dystopian TV show imagined what life would be like if American women had all their rights taken from them and were forced to live under a cruel dictatorship regime. Do we slip closer to the fact that it is a reality, almost a decade later? It can be discussed.
What is not for discussion is that The Handmaid’s Tale – Based on Margaret Atwood’s 1985 book of the same name – became one of hulus’s biggest ever hits ever, the first emmy ever won for the streamer who regularly pulled millions of viewers into the UK on Amazon Prime Video and Channel 4 and made an even bigger star out of Food men‘S Elisabeth Moss.
But six series later, the story ended at the end of the end of May 2025, when the last loose ends of the story of June (Moss), her family and friends were tied. The ending could have been surprising to some fans – it was left a little ambiguous, just as the end of the original novel – but it had to make room for the successor of the book, 2019’s The willswhich is now being transformed into a TV show of Handmaid’s speech Showrunner Bruce Miller.
As the show only went into production at the beginning of 2025 we would not expect The wills Being on screen until 2026 at the earliest, but in the meantime here is everything we know about the follow -up series, including the potential role crew, plotline, the potential release date and if a trailer has been released yet.
Testaments: Release Date Forest
The bad news is that there is likely to be a bit of a wait until we know when The wills will be released. The show only went into production in April 2025, and filming is expected to continue in Toronto, Canada until August 2025.
However, the role crew sent a picture of one of their table readings on the official Instagram account for The wills, Confirmation that production started on April 7, 2025 – but there have been no further updates since.
The wills: Is there a trailer yet?
No, not yet – as soon as a teaser is released, we will send it here.
The wills: Who is in the role crew?

There are three protagonists in the series – as in the book – and the story will each be told through these three main voices.
The first is Aunt Lydia, who eventually had a change in the heart of performing mass abuse on women under Gilead’s orders. Ann Dowd, the actor who played the cruel and sadistic Lydia in Handmaid’s speechreturns to play the hateful character that has finally seen the light.
The other two protagonists of The wills is Agnes to be played by Chase Infiniti (last seen in Presumed innocent) and Daisy, played by Lucy Halliday (Blue Jean). Without giving too much away, we may already know who these girls are – they just got their names changed.

Other actors who are confirmed for roles in the series include Rowan Blanchard, who plays Shunammite, a spoiled teen from a well-known Gilead family whose “status gives her a certain level of respect and power among her comrades”. Mattea Conforti will play like Becka, a girl who goes to school with Gileads Elite. Also on the role crew are Mabel Li, Amy Seimetz, Brad Alexander, Zarrin Darnell-Martin, Eva Foote, Isolde Ardies, Shechinah Mpumlwana, Birva Pandya and Kira Guloien.
When Bruce Miller wrote The Handmaid’s Talehe said he had a hotline for Atwood who wrote the wills at the time and who had a few requests for who could live and die in the show to make the book work. She gave him a “no killing list” that included Lydia, and June’s daughters, Hannah and Holly.
He told me The Hollywood reporter: “She let me know as the creator of the world that things might have changed a bit under my feet. The show went past the book, The Handmaid’s Tale. So I tried to come up with an ending that fit well, and definitely played with a lot of the things she was talking about doing in The wills. “
Elisabeth Moss will be the executive producer at The willsBut she is very unlikely that she will appear in the show unless it is in flashbacks. She may well instruct a few episodes that she did in Handmaid’s speech.
The wills: Plot

The action gathers about 15 years after the end of The Handmaid’s TaleAnd the bad news is that Gilead has not been defeated and is back in power again. However, there is a new generation that is willing to resist and fight the murderous and violent regime.
Aunt Lydia talks about how she finally turned her back on to the evil overlord, revealing how she feels shame for her part in Gilead. But she has now become a key player in the opposition to what is still struggling to put an end to their rulers’ horror.
The other two young women we meet are Agnes and Daisy. Agnes lives in the criminal limitations of Gilead, while Agnes lives safely across the border in Canada with his “parents”. The story will gather these three women and when their “fates are intertwined when they reveal the secrets of Gilead and the resistance to its regime.”
The official synopsis adds by Agnes and her friends: “For these young women, growing up in Gilead is all that they have ever known, and has no tangible memories of the outside world before their indoctrination in this life … Facing the prospect of getting married and living a life in bondage, they will be forced to look for allies, both new and old, to help in their battle and life.”
