Shangla: A senior police officer in Khyber Pakhtunkhwas Shangla district escaped from a remote -controlled improvised explosion device (IED) attack on Saturday.
According to police sources, the District Police Officer (DPO) remained Shangla Shah Hassan and other police personnel safely in the explosion. However, a private vehicle belonging to an official in special branch sustained injuries.
After the attack, law enforcement staff launched a search operation to understand those responsible.
Last year, on March 26, at least six people, including five Chinese citizens, were killed after their vehicle was attacked in Shanglas Besham City.
The country witnessed a sharp increase in terrorist attacks in January 2025, which increased by 42% compared to the previous month, according to data released by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), a think tank.
The data revealed that at least 74 militant attacks were registered nationwide, resulting in 91 deaths, including 35 security personnel, 20 civilians and 36 militants. Another 117 individuals sustained injuries, including 53 staff at security forces, 54 civilians and 10 militants.
KP remained the worst affected province, followed by Balochistan. In KP’s resident districts, militants performed 27 attacks, resulting in 19 fatalities, including 11 security staff, six civilians and two militants.
The tribal districts in KP (formerly FATA) witnessed 19 attacks, led to 46 deaths, including 13 security staff, eight civilians and 25 militants.
