- More foldable iPhone -pricing rumors have come
- It can cost a little less or much more than z Fold 7
- Price may not be the biggest consideration
Nothing is official yet, but it seems that Apple is busy working on a foldable iPhone – and we have a few fresh analyst fores for how much the folding unit costs when it finally sees the light of day.
According to analysts at UBS (via Fortune), the folding iPhone could come in about $ 1,800- $ 2,000. It’s not that bad, given the recently revealed Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 Starts at $ 1,999.99 / £ 1,799 / AU $ 2,899.
Before we go ahead, however, the well-respected Ming-Chi Kuo says Apple invests in superior hinged technology to make the folding iPhone screen folded less visible and it will again push the price higher than it is for other foldable.
Premium prices for the folding iPhone have long been rumored, and given the state of the industry at the moment and past history, it seems more likely that Apple’s acquisition of the form factor will cost more than competition – though time will show.
Price is not everything
Of course, price is important for phones – a cheaper, better value phone will generally sell better than an overpriced price. That said, I don’t think the folding iPhone will sink or swim based on whether it is more or less expensive than its rivals.
We know that Apple fans are typically ready to pay a price prize for iPhones: These handsets command high prices and stick to a lot of their value over time. For a shiny new form factor, I expect there will be plenty of thanks to this device at any cost.
If you are obliged to invest in a foldable phone, you know you want to pay much more than you would do for a standard phone – and remember that a collapsible iPhone may mean you don’t need an iPad, so there are savings there must be there.
What seems to me to be most crucial here is what Apple has always been good at: Giving a software experience and building quality that beats its rivals, which may come in the form of an upgraded hinge and folding setup that improves what Samsung is doing.
