- There might not be a Samsung Galaxy S26 Plus where the S26 edge takes its place
- Screen sizes for the Galaxy S26 series are also leaked
- S26 could have a marginally larger screen than S25, while reportedly there will be no real change for the other two models
It has been an unusual year for Samsung phones as the company has launched more Premium models than usual. Recently, there was Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE – which is the first time we’ve seen a ‘FE’ foldable, and before that, there was the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge – a slimmer alternative to the rest of the S25 series.
Next year, further changes could come, but unlike this year, the company may be able to reduce the choice of phones it makes.
According to a report in the South Korean place ELEC (via telephone arena), there is not a Samsung Galaxy S26 Plus where the Samsung Galaxy S26 Edge takes its place.
While we would take this with a pinch of salt, it is a credible claim, as the Galaxy S25 edge is already similar in some ways the Samsung Galaxy S25 Plus – it has the same screen size and chipset, for example, just on a slimmer shell and with a smaller camera. So there is undoubtedly not much need for both.
This would also bring the Samsung Galaxy S26 series more in line with what we expect from the iPhone 17 series, as Apple is reportedly set to launch an iPhone 17 air rather than an iPhone 17 Plus. There is logic in Samsung that mirrors Apple like this, as it ensures that there are Samsung alternatives for all of Apple’s handsets.
Similar screen sizes
The same report also detailed possible screen sizes for the Samsung Galaxy S26 series, but the listed sizes are similar to the current models where the Samsung Galaxy S26 itself apparently has a 6.27-inch screen where the S26 edge is said to have a 6.66-inch, and the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra allegedly had a 6.89-inch.
In comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S25 has a 6.2-inch screen, the Galaxy S25 Edge has a 6.7-inch and the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra has a 6.9-inch screen. In practice, if this leak is right, we expect Samsung to still market the S26 Plus and S26 Ultra as 6.7 inches and 6.9 inch screens, respectively, where the base model may have been rounded to 6.3 inches.
Some people may be disappointed if the screen sizes don’t increase much, but we would argue that they are already in the sweet place – and if you want a bigger display, there is always Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7.
But the Samsung Galaxy S26 series is probably not launched until the beginning of 2026, so with a long time left to wait, we would also not be surprised if some of these early rumors end up being wrong.
