- Minisforum MS-S-S1 MAX introduces rack compatibility in the Compact Mini PC category
- Memory bandwidth of 256 GB/s supports handling extremely large AI workloads locally
- Double 10 Gigabit LAN gates give network speed unusually in compact systems
The Minis Forum has revealed the MS-S1 Max, a new system that joins the growing list of products built around the AMDS Strix Halo platform.
This device is an advanced option for professionals supporting up to Ryzen AI MAX+ 395 processor along with as much as 128 GB LPDDR5X-8000 memory.
The memory runs in quad channel mode with a bandwidth classified for 256 GB/s, a number sufficient for intensive workloads, such as running large language models with more than 100 billion parameters locally.
A Mini -PC designed for both desk and tripod
According to the company, MS-S1 MAX scales “From Desktop to 2u Rack.”
This formulation leaves some ambiguity as it is unclear whether different case options will be offered or whether the desktop cinema is dimensioned to slip directly into a rack without change.
Either way, the form factor is atypical for a Mini -PC that blurs the lines between compact desktop use and adaptability to data center.
The MS-S1 MAX incorporates a PCIe X16 slot inside the chassis and opens the door to discreet graphics card or other expansion hardware.
This is a clear difference from many compact systems that lack internal upgrade paths.
Back of I/O includes a USB4V2 Type-C port with 80 GBPs flow flow and 15W USB-PD output, two additional USB4 Type-C ports at 40 Gbps, four unspecified USB-A ports, double 10 gigabit LAN and an HDMI output.
On the front there are two USB-C ports, a USB-A port, a headphone jack and double microphones are present.
Wireless connection extends to WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, reflecting the current generational standards.
Instead of relying on an external brick, this Business PC integrates a 320W internal power supply.
This choice simplifies rack mounting and reduces the mess when used as a desk.
There is no information about its cooling system, but given its size it must fit one for sustained workload.
For workstation tasks involving AI model linference, video reproduction or multitasking, such a setup may prove to be advantageous if the thermal design is sufficient.
The company has not provided pricing or availability for MS-S1 max. Without these details, it is still difficult to judge how convincing this Mini -PC will be compared to rival offers.
