It is rare for a robot video to fill me with sadness, but this new one from 1x with the company’s new Neo Gama Humanoid Robot left me in a state of Ennui.
Neo Gamma is an update to Neo Beta 1X introduced six months ago. At that time, the company claimed that its black and gray humanoid robot underwent home attempts. In the video, the bot short interaction with (even embraced) showed a human companion. It left me and other robotics I was talking to skeptical. Humanoid robots are generally believed to be a decade out, but 1x seemed to try to close this hole significantly.
Recently, the company Neo Gamma revealed a robot with several aesthetic and technical improvements. There are new “emotional” LED earrings that the company believes will help improve communication. I assume this is because the rings light up when you talk to the robot that contains microphones and speakers.
They have done about the body’s coverage and made it almost a more attractive beige, making it softer and safer for the home.
The movement has also become an upgrade. Neo Gamma’s arms can now swing and its walk is smoother than the beta model. In addition, the robot can now sit down in a chair.
As with Neo Beta, Neo Gamma AI integrates. For example, the updated visual manipulation model will enable Gamma to handle objects it has never seen before. Generally, 1x claims on its website, “Neo Gamma’s design opens the door to start internal home testing – a first step in creating fully autonomous humanoids.”

Look at
To illustrate this point, 1x released this launch video showing Neo Gamma operating in a typical home. It cleanses, manufactures and serves coffee, pours wine and collects groceries from its owner. Neo Gamma even cleans Windows.
But it is a lonely existence. Most of the time, the couple ignores the Neo Gamm video even though it serves and works around them. When it serves coffee, they hardly look up. When it enjoys the rug, it doesn’t even get a look. There is a touching moment when Neo Gamma helps hang a picture and even get thumbs up, but that is the extent of real human commitment. At the end of the video, the couple enjoys a meal in the dining room, the one that I know that Neo Gamma was preparing and serving, and the robot is in the other room alone. It takes a seat on the couch and stares out into the room.
Is this the “life” we expect for our humanoid companions – with us, but separately? Although I assume these robots have no emotions, I am sure others and I will anthropomorphic and begin to thank them, chat and engage in a more human way. I think I wonder if 1x could have shown me a little more natural interaction between people and robot.
1X has not set a price or delivery date for Neo Gamma, but you can join the waiting list to become the robot’s mas … is … beloved owner.
In the meantime, I think I have to cheer up and watch a fun cat video.
