- Essentials x10 SSD fits 8TB in a drive that is hardly greater than your credit card
- Read speeds hit 2,100 MB/s but only under ideal conditions get few users replicated
- Decisive t710 boasts Gen5 up to 14,900 MB/s – at least on paper
Large capacity SSDs packed in compact designs continue to attract attention as users look for storage solutions that combine portability, performance and enough space to handle growing digital requirements.
On Computex 2025, crucial parent company Micron revealed two new portable SSDs: the decisive X10 and the decisive T710 PCIE Gen5 NVME SSD.
The decisive X10 is part of the company’s push in portable drives with high capacity offering 4TB, 6TB and 8TB storage, although the device is hardly larger than a stack of credit card.
Decisively adding storage options with high capacity
It claims to read speeds of up to 2,100 MB/s, similar to the older but greater crucial X10 Pro. It uses the SM2322 controller, has an IP65 dust and water resistance assessment and is drop-tested to almost 10 meters.
According to crucial, the X10 can save up to 500,000 4K photos, more than 100 large video games or over 2 million mp3 files -although these numbers depend a lot on file types and compression.
Still, an 8TB drive is this little unusual and will probably appeal to anyone tired of juggling with several smaller SSDs or external HDDs.
“Our X10 -bearable drives are a power center that effortlessly handle massive backups, games and photo libraries – no matter where life takes you or what it throws your way. These innovations from decisively emphasize our gracious efforts to exceed our customers’ storage needs,” said Dinesh Bahal, company vice president and Director General of Micron.
Meanwhile, the internal crucial T710 is targeted to the performance segment with PCIe Gen5 support and speeds reaching 14,900 MB/s read and 13,800 MB/s writing.
It uses the Micron’s G9 NAND and Silicon Motions SM2508 controller and is clearly designed with AI workload and advanced games in mind.
Random IOPS numbers reach 2.2 million for readings and 2.3 million for writing, however, as crucial remarks, these results were achieved under ideal conditions using crystaldish field with writing cache enabled and Windows features deactivated to reduce system costs. The real world achievement will vary.
Crucial claims that the T710 offers up to 67% more IOPS per year. Watts than previous models and can load large language models like Llama 2 in memory in a second.
The T710 will be available in capacities up to 4TB and will include an optional cooling plate for systems with limited thermal ceiling height. The decisive X10 is available now, while the T710 is expected to be sent in July 2025.
