- An iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max case with a built-in display has been announced
- Called the Selfix Case, it’s designed to help you frame selfies using the rear cameras
- It also has a microSD card slot
One of the more exciting phones announced this year is the Xiaomi 17 Pro, which – along with its bigger sibling, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max – has a small secondary screen on the back so you can control media, view notifications and frame selfies. But soon, with the help of an accessory, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will also get some of these options.
Selfix has announced the Selfix Case, a cover for your iPhone 17 Pro or iPhone 17 Pro Max that has a 1.6-inch circular AMOLED touchscreen built in. This 480 x 480 screen can be used as a viewfinder for the rear cameras, so you can use them to take selfies.
The upside is that it gives you three extra lenses to choose from for selfies, giving you different focal lengths and access to larger, more megapixel sensors and better low-light performance. Of course, you could technically still take selfies with the rear cameras without this case, but you’d just have to hope your shot was framed correctly.
Also increases your storage space
The Selfix Case also includes a microSD card slot, so add a card and you’ll have plenty of room for all your photos and videos. In addition, there is a mechanical button to turn the secondary display on and off.
Even better, the Selfix Case supposedly works without any apps or setup — just pop your iPhone in it and you should be good to go.
How well it works in practice remains to be seen, but it’s certainly exciting. There’s also the matter of price, as we don’t know how much the Selfix Case will cost yet, but it’s reportedly coming to Kickstarter soon, where it’ll be offered in Oat White, Blush Pink, and Midnight Black.
Of course, even if it works as advertised, it won’t be as versatile as the secondary screen on the Xiaomi 17 Pro series, as it can be used for much more than just framing selfies. But if you want a second screen without ditching iOS, then this might be your best and only option.
