Three killed when dumps run over students

Abbottabad:

A road accident near Lady Garden, Abbottabad, claimed the life of three schoolchildren and left five other critically injured when a dumping car ran over a group of students from the Cantonment Board School as they crossed the road early Friday morning.

According to the first reports, the deceased was identified as 10-year-old Rehan, 14-year-old Manal and 13-year-old Sawab. The wounded students included 5-year-old Urooba, 13-year-old Sawera, 15-year-old Yashfa and 11-year-old Ehtesham. All victims belonged to Banda Phugwariyan, a suburban locality in Abbottabad.

Dumping driver, Mohsin Khan, fled the stage immediately after the accident. The police, however, seized the truck (registration number TKM-060) and registered a case at Cantonment Police Station under section 279, 337, 320 and 322 in the Pakistani Criminal Code. Raids are underway to arrest the absconding driver.

Rescue 1122 Team changed the deceased and wounded to Abbottabad DHQ Hospital, where doctors described the condition of the wounded children as critical.

Sources confirmed that all victims belonged to the same large family. Funeral prayer for the deceased was offered in Banda Phugwariyan, participated by a large number of griefs.

Family members and local residents accused the tragedy of the negligence of the traffic police, claiming that despite dozens of departments deployed along the 7-kilometer-silk roads in the city, heavy vehicles are often allowed to pass for limited hours. Eyewitnesses at the protest also claimed that departments are more focused on issuing challengers – reporting reporting a 30% share of the collections – than regulating traffic to prevent such events.

SSP traffic Qamar Hayat Khan confirmed that trucks are forbidden to enter the city between 7 p.m. DPO Abbottabad Umar Tufail (PSP) immediately noticed and ordered strict trial against the driver and the seizure of the vehicle.
