- Tim Cook just teased that something is in the air this week
- It’s not an event invitation but rather a video teaser for something new
- If rumors are right we could see a new MacBook Air with M4 or a new iPad
Warm from the heels of fresh rumors of a MacBook air update with the latest, super speed M4 chip, Apple CEO Tim Cook teases that there’s something in ‘Air’ this week. It is probably a very smart choice of words, but all this confirms that at least there is an Apple launch on the horizon.
As with the teasing for what turned out to be iPhone 16E, Tim Cook took to X (formerly Twitter), where he wrote “this week.” And then a six-second teaser video. Although it does not show any product, it flashes one word individually at a time and writes out: There is something in the air. And it points to two of Apple’s products-the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air and iPad Air.
To suggest speed is the fact that something slides through the word air, causing a ring effect. It could be a new MacBook Air or an iPad Air, probably with some improved services with the permission of Apple Silicon.
The teaser that was sent at. 10:54 on March 3, 2025, a day after Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman shared that Apple’s planned update to MacBook Air with the M4 chip could come as soon as this week.
Apple initially launched the M4 chip in May 2024 with the iPad Pro and then brought it to the iMac, Mac Mini and MacBook Pro (14-inch and 16-inch) in October 2024. So you can say it’s time to arrive at Apple’s most popular and portable laptop, MacBook Air.
We do not expect a wildly different design with the new MacBook Air, but the M4 chip could speed up tasks thanks to an enhanced CPU and GPU, and it can also be better for Apple Intelligence thanks to bigger jumps with the neural engine. It should also help extend the battery life further.
Tim Cook also chose an important set of words that have some history at Apple. You remember that before Steve Jobs pulled the original MacBook Air out of the Manila Convoluted, the event was teased with the underline, “2008 there is something in the air.” This time there is extra weight on AIR.
Given that this tease from Apple does not specify a new addition to the family, we could get more than one new product from the Cupertino-based tech giant.
According to recent reports, Apple is also preparing an upgraded iPad Air and a new iPad on Entry-Level, probably the 12th gen. Apple updated the iPad Air, bringing Face -time down and a design that looks more like the iPad Pro in May 2024, but it could improve performance with either the M3 or M4 chip as well as new accessories.
As for the iPad basis level, it must also see a speed improvement, but rumors suggest that it is about it. In the same report as MacBook Air noted Bloomberg that the iPad launches could be further out.
However, we know more soon, as Apple says the news will be made this week. Of course, hold ontechradar to the latest as we break down what Apple has in store. Meanwhile I ask Siri to play a Phil Collins Classic – In the air tonight.
