- NymVPN has just rolled out a new ad blocker for desktop apps
- The tool prevents customized ads from appearing
- The VPN’s latest update comes with additional features
Tired of annoying ads? NymVPN has just come to the rescue and brought a new ad blocker for desktop apps to rid you of all those annoying pop-ups.
In its latest update, version 2026.4, NymVPN has launched a new ad blocking tool that aims to reduce the need for browser extensions by adding native blocking directly to desktop apps, along with broader app accessibility improvements.
The move is designed to smooth out the user experience on what calls itself “the world’s most private VPN,” as the decentralized network that has made privacy its raison d’être continues to pursue its goal of becoming one of the best VPNs — or simply the most secure in the world.
Users can now download the latest version on Windows, macOS and Linux. NymVPN added that development is also underway for mobile devices.
A safety boost
As NymVPN reminded its users, “blocking ads is actually a superpower when it comes to privacy,” and we couldn’t agree more.
First, the push for online monetization has led to ads popping up all over the place on web pages, often disrupting the browsing experience as users have to weed through a jungle of ads.
The more ads that appear, the greater the risk that particularly harmful pop-ups or those hiding scams are easy to miss among the noise and their authenticity becomes harder to verify.
Furthermore, ads can act as spyware to track user behavior during web sessions, and even this can help digital criminals create detailed profiles that can be exploited for scams and fraud.
To prevent this from happening, the upgrade filters requests at the NymVPN client level to block requests from known ad providers as they enter the system.
This means that unlike standalone ad blockers, banner ads, pop-ups and trackers, often considered the nemesis of digital users, can be blocked not only in web browsers, but in any app that requests data from these sources.
NymVPN also promises quick installation: just click next NymVPN’s settings and enable the Block ads option to start enjoying an ad-free experience.
With the new tool, the VPN provider strengthens its privacy ambitions, builds on previous censorship unlocking features and reinforces its commitment to becoming the ultimate privacy provider.
How does it intend to do this? In short, its distributed privacy solution, still in beta, leverages blockchain technology based on the concept of ‘Mixnet’ to decentralize control over privacy.
Unlike traditional VPNs, it uses a single VPN server employing a distributed set of ‘nodes’ that route traffic on a Mixnet through distributed nodes to hide metadata.
The cryptocurrency ecosystem rewards node operators for providing a high-quality network to Mixnet, which the VPN claims will ensure unparalleled anonymity.
More updates on quality of life
In addition, NymVPN has also improved the overall accessibility and usability of its apps by introducing alternative options for account access and recovery.
This means that although the default access method involves assigning an anonymous account, you can also use your personal information to log in or recover your passphrase if you wish.
The Apple Store and Google Play Store have also been localized into 9 languages to increase NymVPN’s global reach, making the software completely available in the local language – including all screenshots, descriptions and keywords. New languages include Hindi, Turkish and Persian.
The icing on the cake is a bug fix for previously reported bugs related to ‘no active subscription’ and user view, with the VPN provider also promising a new Mixnet optimization coming soon.
