More than a decade has passed since Russell Wilson Quarterbacked Seattle Seahawks for Back-to-Back Super Bowl appearances.
After a decade of Seahawks, Wilson left Seattle after the 2021 season. He continued to have a swelling two-year stint with Denver Broncos and spent 2024 with Pittsburgh Steelers. Wilson started his latest chapter with New York Giants this season, but he was referred to the backup role after only three games.
The latest setback in the Super Bowl champion and 10-time Pro Bowler’s career raised questions about his short-lived NFL future and his heritage. The Pro Football Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez was among those who expressed doubts as to whether Wilson would one day wear the coveted gold jacket.

Gonzalez was part of Prime Video’s coverage of Thursday evening’s game between Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals. At one point during the broadcast, Gonzalez shared his thoughts on Wilson’s prospects of being written down in Canton.
“Honestly, I hope we have

Gonzalez then pointed to Wilson’s turbulent ran with other NFL teams since his Seahawks -Exit.
“But as soon as he traveled there he went to Denver – signed the big old deal – they paid him $ 39 million to leave. He goes to Pittsburgh, playing there a year he’s out there. Now he goes (to New York) and has three games. I just don’t know if it gets better and I won’t see him on a sideline that holds a clipboard.

“I just don’t think he has done anyone himself favors since he left Seattle. And how is it getting better? I don’t know.”
Richard Sherman, a former member of Seahawk’s famous “Legion of Boom” defense, also weighs into Wilson’s career.
“I agree. I think you have to judge his career when ‘Legion of Boom’ was there-he had a legendary defense, a defense all the time and how much success he had-and then without the legendary defense.”

Sherman then pointed to the lack of victories that Wilson has managed to produce since leaving Seattle.
“He was a winning footballer in Seattle,” Sherman continued. “And now you come on your own and you get to prove, ‘Hi, I’m this big quarterback, I’m this guy who becomes dominant.’ And it just hasn’t worked that way.
Wilson was drafted in the third round in 2012. He served the exit role as a rookie and later evolved from what many considered a game manager in one of the NFL’s more athletic and freelancing quarterbacks.
Giants dropped their Week 3 match to Kansas City Chiefs to stay Winless into their week 4 -Matchup with the undefeated Los Angeles chargers. Wilson worked well in a narrow loss overtime to Dallas Cowboys in week 2.
However, a defective view in two of three games this season got Giants to Bench Wilson.
Despite the bench, Wilson remains confident on his ability to continue playing the game at a high level.
“I know I’m a winner,” he said Wednesday after he lost the starting job. “I know having the championship mentality. Winners do not choose and choose. Leaders do not choose and choose when they will lead and when they will help and communicate as a winner or whatever it may be. These are the things I know and I can control. So that’s what I’m focused on.”
