Islamabad:
The Supreme Court has scheduled for August 12 The consultation of Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) Foundation Chairman Imran Khan’s bail petitions in cases in connection with the riots on May 9.
A bench with three members, led by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi, will take up the matter.
The Apex Court had previously postponed the hearing of the imprisoned ex-premier’s bail applications in eight cases 9 May until August 12 without issuing messages that his lawyer was sought.
In November 2024, a Lahore-Anti terrorism Court of Justice refused to give Imran-Caution in cases linked to the May 9, 2023 riots, which included an attack on the residence of the Lahore Corps commander.
His subsequent challenge for this decision was rejected by Lahore High Court (LHC) on June 24.
The former prime minister approached the right to contest LHC’s rejection of his guarantee care. The appeal, filed by senior lawyer Salman Safdar, claimed that Imran had been accused of “conspiracy and welcoming violence on May 9”.
It maintained that at the time of the alleged incidents, Imran was in the custody of the National Accountability Bureau, which made its commitment to the turmoil “impossible”.
The petition also claimed that the PTI founder had been exposed to an “unprecedented campaign for political victim” since his removal from the office two years earlier.
The petition, which challenged LHC’s judgment, claimed that the court had been dependent on “constructed and fabricated proof”, including “stale, discredited and delayed declarations of police officers”.
Meanwhile, the top court has put together four benches for its Islamabad register, two to the Peshawar registration database and two to the Lahore register for the upcoming court week.
The three-member bench, led by CJ Afridi and consisting of Justice Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui and Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb, will take IMRAN’s bail facility on August 12.
