- Width of Attacks Highlight Salt Typhoon’s threat to US Command
Another victim of the massive salt typhoon cyberattack that targeted US telecommunications giants has been identified as viasat.
Bloomberg News Reports The company found a break in its systems earlier in 2025 linked to the wider attacks against US communication infrastructure when the satellite communication company worked with the country’s government.
Viasat has several contracts and partnerships across the maritime, aviation and networking industries along with several contracts with the US Department of Defense and the US Space Force.
Satellite Community Targeted by Salt Typhoon
The attack in 2024 saw the Chinese bound salt typhoon group hack for several networks belonging to telecommunications companies such as Verizon, AT&T and Lumen, which probably gave the hackers access and registration of calls and messages. The group also allegedly violated a back door system used by US authorities to carry out court -proof wiretaps.
In addition, Salt Typhoon Group also hit the presidential campaigns for both Kamala Harris and Donald Trump during the US presidential election in 2024.
China has often refused to have links to the hacking group, even gone so far as to accuse the CIA of being behind attacks committed by another Chinese-bound group, Volt Typhoon.
Following Viasat’s investigations of the violation that took place via unauthorized access through a compromised entity, the company said it had not found any customer impact after the attack.
“Viasat believes that the incident has been remedied and has not discovered any recent activity related to this event,” the company said.
The full impact of Salt Typhoon attack may never be known as huge cuts to government departments, and advisory boards were made immediately after President Trump’s return to the White House.
The most important study pursued by the Cyber Safety Review Board (CSRB) was canceled after the Council of Council was ax to “eliminate an abuse of resources”, according to the former acting Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security, Benjamin C. Huffman.
