Traffic violations in Sindh are now delivered with hefty fines, strict points system

Karachi:

The Sindh government has introduced strict fines and demolition points for traffic violations to make roads safer. Over -speed, signal hopping, incorrect driving, overloading and driving without a license will now face harsh sanctions.

Key fines under the new system:

Overpower: RS5,000 for motorcycles, RS15,000 for cars, RS20,000 for heavy vehicles + 8 Demerit -point

Driving without License: Up to RS50,000 + 6 points

Ruthless driving: RS25,000 + 8 points

Other violations: unicorn, riding without helmet, tinted windows, wrong driving, carry passengers on the rooftops

Senior Sindh Minister of Information, Transport and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon, emphasized that these measures are not aimed at collecting revenue, but against saving lives and ensuring road safety.

“Traffic violations such as signal jumping, overpowering and one-wheel are no less actions-they are deadly behavior that is not only jeopardizing the drivers but also others on the road,” he said, adding that repeated offenders can face hanging or cancellation of their driver’s license.

He also said that the Sindh government is working to modernize traffic management by introducing a digital monitoring system and strengthening the traffic police capacity.

He noted that the Demerit Points system would help track repeated offenders, a practice that has been successfully implemented in developed countries.

Consciousness campaigns will also be launched to educate citizens on traffic rules and encourage voluntary compliance, Memon said. “Our goal is to build a culture of safe driving and protect life, not just impose fines on,” he added.
