Two California High Schools are leaving the Nevada Interscholastic Activity Association (NIAA) in relation to the state’s decision to prohibit transient athletes to compete in girls’ sports.
Trucke and North Tahoe High Schools were the two schools intended to leave the Athletics Association, Reno Gazette reported Journal on Friday. Both schools sit near the California-Nevada border.

Truckee School’s spokesman Amber Burke told the newspaper that the move was made because colleges have to follow California’s Gender Discrimination Laws.
“We are a school district of California, and so we must comply with California’s state law,” Burke said. “It is related to the recent NIAA-political changes regarding the eligibility of the student athlete based on biological sex. It is in conflict with the laws of California.”
Truckee Tahoe United School District sent a letter to parents and said the Nevada rules “directly conflict with California’s laws protecting gender identity and expression, including AB 1955, which guarantees student rights to privacy and protects them from discrimination,” according to Reno Gazette Journal.
NIAA voted in April to adopt a new policy of gender eligibility banning trans -athletes from girls’ sports. Only biological women can compete against girls in the state.
The change marked a reversal from the state’s previous policy that allowed Trans to compete in girls and women’s sports, which has resulted in several controversial events of what is happening in recent years.

Nevada changed its trans athlete policies in April.

The two schools move to California Interscholastic Federation. The state planned to keep its gender eligibility policy to allow biological men to compete against women in sports and thumbs up against President Donald Trump’s executive order.
A top -art survey from the Public Policy Institute of California, released in April, found that most of California residents are against biological male trans athletes competing in women’s sports.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom admitted that trans athletes competing in girls’ sports are “deeply unreasonable” during an episode of his podcast last month, but defended to allow it of empathy for the transient population.
“Nevada Interscholastic Activity Association has been notified that Tahoe-Truckee Unified School District is trying to withdraw from Nevada Interscholastic Activity Association,” said NIAA’s CEO Tim Jackson on Monday via Las Vegas Review-Journal. “We work with the district to guide them through the withdrawal process and ensure a smooth and collaboration transition. Throughout this process, NIAA remains obliged to support all member schools and student athletes.”

“Once we move on, we will prioritize the solidification of athletic schedules for the upcoming fall season and maintain clear, continuous communication with all stakeholders to minimize disturbances and ensure clarity for everyone involved. We appreciate the long-time partnerships with Tahoe-Trucke Unified School District and are dedicated to supporting their transition and at the same time maintaining the best interests in all our members.”
