But the criticism did not end on Saturday. With students back in school after the weekend, high school girls decided to take the cases in their own hands.
Numerous Girls from Tumwater High School in Tumwater protested during school hours with a large banner sign reading, “This is not a walk (sic). We don’t go anywhere.”
Other characters read “XX”, “protesting female sports” and other similar messages.
Washington Interscholastic Activity Association (WIAA) issued the following statement to Pakinomist Digital: “Wiaa continues to represent the 225,000+ student participants throughout the state. The association is aware of the protest from Tumwater HS students.”
Tumwater Girls’ team finished in third place at the meeting. Reese Heryford finished in 15th place in a preliminary race for the 400 meters, as they were not in the necessary top eight to qualify for the final.
Garcia said Boos was “Expected[ed]”

“I want to be honest, I expect it,” Garcia told the Seattle Times. “But it might not have their intended effect. It made me angry but not angry as in I would give up but angry as in I want to push.
“I want to put this in the most PG-13 way. I just want to say it’s a damn shame that they have nothing else to do. I hope they get a life. But oh. It just shows who they are like human beings.”
Garcia, who ran the race in 55.70 seconds, won by a full second. That time would have been the slowest of any boy, even in the preliminary rounds. Garcia also won a state championship last year and complained about Lack of sports from other competitors.
Garcia’s victory came about a week after Quilcene School District in Washington voted, 3-2, to hold sports competition based on the birthday of the athletes, a step that defies the state law.
