Transgender Runner breaks records in Oregon Girls’ Track Meet

The same Oregon High School that came under fire last year for allowing a transgender athlete to compete against girls continues to blow the competition a year later.

Ada Gallagher, who ran as a 10th class at McDaniel High School in Portland, finished in the first place of 200 m and 400 m ran below 6A-1 Portland Interscholastic League Championship in 2024.

Now an 11th grade, Gallagher was back on the field for a Portland Interscholastic League meeting at her home ground, where she was discovered that he jumped the competition, especially in 400m, where she finished more than seven seconds better than the rest of the field.

Gallagher finished at 57.62 at 400 m, with Franklin High School’s Kinnaly Souphanthong coming to second place at 1: 05.72. Gallagher’s teammate, Quinnan Schaefer, was behind Souphanthong at 1: 07.13.

Then, in the 200m race, Gallagher finished in first place at 25.76, followed by teammate Addyson is flushed at 27.31.

Both times for Gallagher were seasonal records.

As the video of the races began to circulate on social media, commentators began talking their piece.

“This experience must be so demoralizing for these girls,” said an X user. “… you look back later and get much more annoyed, especially if you have your own children.” Another added, “The girls should all just start refusing to run, and it ends soon.”

The Oregon School Activity Association, the GREATING BORN for Portland Interscholastic League, has a gender identity participation policy that “allows students to participate in the athletic or activity program for their consistently alleged gender identity while providing a fair and secure environment for all students.”

“As with Rule 8.2 with regard to the duration of eligibility / graduation, rules promote rules such as this harmony and fair competition among member schools by maintaining equality of eligibility and increasing the number of students who are given the opportunity to participate in interscholastic activities,” adds the rulebook.

President Donald Trump’s executive order 14201, better known as “keeping men out of women’s sports”, was signed to “protect female students athletes, in the women’s category, from having to ‘compete with or against or have to be shy out before men.'”

When Trump signed the order last month, Oregon Republicans were delighted when House Minority Leader Christine Drazan said she would introduce a bill to rewrite policies in high school athletics.

“Women have fought for – and earned – respect and support for themselves in sports and have achieved incredible gains by doing so. We must defend this progress and stand up for justice.” Drazan said in a statement released on national girls and women in Sports Day, per. Oregon Public Broadcasting.
