American Eagle has been the subject of controversy and growing popularity following a series of advertisements with actress Sydney Sweeney. The ad in question involved Sweeney in the denim of American Eagle, who played on the gay “Jeans” and “Genes” that triggered accusations of eugenik.

American Eagle released a statement On her social media earlier this month and said, “‘Sydney Sweeney has big jeans’ is and was always about jeans. Her jeans. Her story. We will continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Big jeans look good on everyone.”
