Pittsburgh: US President Donald Trump has announced a massive plan of $ 92 billion to help drive the growing world of artificial intelligence.
He said this while talking in Pennsylvania at the initial Pennsylvania Energy and Innovation Summit at Carnegie Mellon University, where much of the focus was on beating China in the Global Race for AI Dominance.
The move comes when the concerns grow over whether the current system can keep up with the fast AI boom.
He said the investment would support new energy and infrastructure projects to meet the rising demand for electricity driven by AI technology.
“Today’s obligations ensure that the future will be designed, built and made right here in Pennsylvania and right here in Pittsburgh, and I have to say right here in the United States of America,” Trump said at the event.
The technical world has fully embraced generative AI as the next major technological leap, but concerns are mounted on the enormous energy it requires, cannot be supported by the current infrastructure, especially in the United States.
Generative AI depends a lot on huge computing power, largely to operate energy-hungry processors from Nvidia, the California-based company now ranked the world’s most valuable business by market value.
Officials estimate that in 2028, technology companies require as much as five gigawatts power to support AI – enough electricity to deliver about five million homes.
Top leaders from Palantir, Anthropic, Exxon and Chevron were present at the summit.
The funding will be allocated to build new data centers, expand power production, upgrade net infrastructure and support AI training and apprenticeship programs.
Race to beat China
Among the most important investments, Google has promised $ 25 billion to construct AI clear data centers in Pennsylvania and nearby regions.
“We support President Trump’s clear and urgent direction that our nation invests in AI … so America can continue to lead in AI,” said Ruth Porat, Google’s President and Chief Investment Officer.
Google also announced a collaboration with Brookfield Asset Management to modernize two hydropower facilities in Pennsylvania, representing the 670 MW capacity added to the regional network.
The investment company Blackstone has committed to more than $ 25 billion for new data centers and energy infrastructure.
US Senator David McCormick from Pennsylvania called the investments “hugely significant to Pennsylvania and critical of the country’s future.”
His remarks are repeating a growing view in Washington that the United States must not fall behind China in the course of AI management.
“We are far ahead of China and the plants start up, construction starts,” Trump said.
The US president launched the “Stargate” project in January with plans to invest up to $ 500 billion in domestic AI infrastructure -a direct response to intensified competition with China.
The Japanese tech giant Softbank, along with chatgpt-maker Openai and Oracle, invest $ 100 billion in the initial phase of the project.
Trump has also turned many of the Biden administration policies that placed control over the development of advanced AI algorithms and limited exports of advanced technologies to certain allied nations.
He is expected to present his own AI timetable later this month.
