Trump looks Ryder Cup Tee on Bethpage Black

President Donald Trump, accompanied by his grandson Kai Trump, arrived at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, New York, Friday to the opening session of the 2025 Ryder Cup.

The president, who sported a pair of pointed golf shoes, boarded Marine One well after Team USA star Bryson DeChambeau launched his opening drive 344 yards, lands just below the green, to start the 45th installment of the competition.

Friday’s performance first marked Trump attended a professional golf event as a spectator since August 2023, when Liv Golf went to his Bedminster course in New Jersey. He visited his Doral course in Miami the day before a life golf event earlier this year and played in a life of Golf Pro-Am on his Washington course, DC, in 2023.

Trump also participated in the 2017 Cup Cup Cup Cup in Jersey City, New Jersey, where Team USA defeated Team International.

The Ryder Cup is also the third sporting event that Trump attended this month, all of which have taken place in the New York Metro area. He attended the men’s US open final on September 7, and four days later he took a New York Yankees game against Detroit Tigers on the 24th anniversary of September 11 -Terroric attacks.

Bryson DeChambeau said on Thursday that he hoped Trump could “inspire us to victory,” and several players on both troops discussed the importance of Trump’s participation.

“To have the president here it has been a tough couple of weeks for our country with some of the things that have been going on and to have our president here and for us to represent the United States of America, albeit in a golf tournament, is extremely important to us, and we are happy to be at home with the home audience, and we are ready to have this tournament begun,” Scottie Scheffler said.

Team United States Captain Keegan Bradley added, “I am deeply honored that the president of the United States is going to support our team in the Ryder Cup. I think anytime you can be around a current president is a pretty phenomenal thing, but when you represent your country at a place like Bethpage Black in New York, it is to have the president there to support tirelessly.

Even Team Europe’s Tyrrell Hatton showed his enthusiasm.

“I think it just shows how special Ryder Cup is and what sporting event it has become,” he said. “I mean, Trump loves golf, so it’s not really a surprise that he wants to be here and enjoy the atmosphere. So yes, I mean it will be a good day and I think everyone out there tomorrow will enjoy the atmosphere in some way. And I see nothing wrong with wanting to be part of it.”

However, Team Called Europe’s Robert Macintyre Trump as “just another spectator.”

Ryder Cup ends on Sunday when Team Europe seems to be the first road team to win the event since they did it in 2012. No one has gone back to back since Europe won three from 2010 to 2014.
