NCAA President Charlie Baker said on Monday he was “up to something” when asked about reports that President Donald Trump is ready to set up a college commission.

The Presidential Commission would tackle questions that the university sports landscape is facing with former Alabama Crimson Tide football coach Nick Saban and billionaire Cody Campbell, who led it, reported Yahoo Sports last week.

“I think the fact that there is an interest on the executive side of this, I think it speaks to the fact that everyone is very attentive right now on what is going on in college sports,” Baker said via Raleigh News & Observer. “There is a lot going on, it’s not all bad, and I’m ready for something that helps us get somewhere.”

Commissioners for the best conferences in NCAA have already asked Congress to step in to help NCAA regulate the name, image and equality (zero) and the transfer portal.

Greg Sankey, Jim Phillips, Tony Petitti and Brett Yormark were at Capitol Hill last month. Yormark, Big 12 Commissioner, admittedly admitted to Bret Baier in “Special Report”, “We need help from Congress.”

“From where I sit today, federal preference, having a standardized platform that oversees and manages zero is critically important,” Yormark said. “Today, 34 states see it very different and it is relatively irregular.”

“The amount of laws adopted at state level makes it really difficult for us to regulate and compete nationally,” added Petitti. “Every time someone doesn’t like a decision, or something comes from NCAA, we end up in litigation. These rules are then gathered and we are back to the start.

“We are hopeful that the combination of what we have done in the settlement will give us an opportunity with some help from Congress to really place a system in a place that has some stability.

“We have crossed the bridge to be willing to give revenue … but we have to have some structure. We cannot have a system that has completely unregulated movement.”

It is unclear when the Commission would be completed.

NCAA and Collegial Athletes have been waiting for House Settlement of $ 2.8 billion to be approved. It allows schools to share the revenue with athletes directly to use their zero.
