President Donald Trump increased the pressure on Cleveland Guardians and the Washington commanders to change their team names back to the Indians and Redskins respectively on Sunday.
Trump released two social media posts asking both teams to make the movements. As he threatened to put the commanded ‘RFK Stadium agreement in the balance sheet, he said it was’ common sense’ common sense. “
Ohio State Republican Rep. Brian Lorenz seemed to agree with the president.

“You didn’t mess with Chief Wahoo and expect Cleveland to forget,” he wrote in a post on the X. “Cleveland Indians were not just a team – they were summer evenings, family memories, heartache and miracles.
“We didn’t change because fans asked – we changed ourselves because elites told us that. Time to bring back what made us us.”
Trump first wrote in truth social that there was a “big cluster” for the commanders to return to being called Redskins and the same with Guardians.
“The Washington ‘no matter what needs to be changed immediately their name back to the Washington Redskins football team. There is a great clinging for this,” he wrote. “Likewise, the Cleveland Indians, one of the six original baseball teams, are with a stored past.
“Our great Indian people, in massive numbers, want this to happen. Their heritage and prestige are systematically taken away from them. The times are different now than they were three or four years ago. We are a country of passion and common sense. Owners, get it done !!!”

Later in the day he was scrapping the pressure.

“My statement about Washington Redskins is completely blown up, but only in a very positive way,” he added. “I may have a limitation on them that if they do not change the name back to the original ‘Washington Redskins’, and get rid of the ridiculous moniker, ‘Washington commanders,’ I will not make a deal for them to build a stadium in Washington. The team would be much more valuable and the deal would be more exciting for everyone.
“Cleveland was to do the same with the Cleveland Indians. The owner of the Cleveland -Baseball team, Matt Dolan, who is very political, has lost three choices in a row because of the ridiculous name change,” Trump added. “What he doesn’t understand is that if he changed the name back to Cleveland -Indians, he can actually win an election. Indians are treated very unfairly. Make Indians great again (Miga)!”
While Matt Dolan owns a minority share in The Guardians, it was Paul Dolan who announced the change in 2021.

Cleveland had been known as the Indians since 1915. Dolan previously said the decision to explore the name change came from “an awakening or epiphany” after George Floyd’s death.
Cleveland was nicknamed Blues in 1902, then Napoleon’s and Naps until 1915, when the organization changed the name to the Indians. The team became known as the Indians throughout the 2021 season.
Guardian’s President Chris Antonti responded to Trump’s pressure on Sunday afternoon. He said it wasn’t actually something the organization had in mind.
The team told Pakinomist Digital that they had no further comment.
