New York: In a dramatic step, US President Donald Trump’s administration has prevented Harvard University from enrolling foreign students.
The decision affects more than a quarter of the university’s students and marks a serious clash between Trump and one of America’s most famous schools.
Trump says Harvard refused to follow the rules and allowed a campus environment that he claims is unsafe to Jewish students and supports radical views.
Trump is furious over Harvard-AS has produced 162 Nobel Prize winners to reject his demand that it submits to the supervision of recordings and hiring his claims that it is a fireplace for anti-Semitism and “woke up” liberal ideology.
“Effective Immediately Harvard University’s Student and Exchange Visitor (Sevis) certification,” wrote Homeland Security Secretary Christ’s Noem in a letter to the Ivy League institution and referred to the most important system that foreign students are allowed to study in the United States.
Last month, Trump threatened to prevent Harvard from enrolling foreign students if it did not agree that the government requires it to put the private institution under out of political supervision.
“As I explained to you in my April letter, it is a privilege to sign up for foreign students,” Noem wrote.
“All universities must comply with the Department of Homeland Security requirements, including reporting requirements in accordance with the students’ and exchange visiting program provisions to maintain this privilege,” she said.
“As a result of your rejection of meeting more requests to give the Department of Homeland Security relevant information, while promoting an uncertain campus environment that is hostile to Jewish students, promoting Pro-Hama’s sympathy and using racial diversity, justice and inclusion, you have lost this privilege.”
More than 27 percent of Harvard’s registration consisted of foreign students in the study year 2024–25, according to university data.
Harvard did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
