President Donald Trump pulled a mix of cheer and boos from the crowd at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York ahead of the US Open Men’s Singles Final Sunday afternoon.
Trump showed up less than an hour before the match between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz began. He stepped on the balcony of the Rolex Corporate Suite he was placed in and waved the crowd. Tennis fans cheered for the president and Trump mouthed, “Thanks.”

The president greeted when the national anthem played in the stadium. He received a mix of cheer and boos from the crowd as the cameras panned against him. He reportedly received Boos again in the middle of the match.
Trump critics were quick to pile on the president and mentioned only boos from the crowd. Bounces Reporter Ben Rothenberg noted that the president also received some flaps.
It’s Trump’s first visit to the Grand Slam Tennis Tournament since before entering the White House. He was seen at the event in September 2015 – months after he first announced his race to President. And it’s a pretty good time to be a fan of the sport.
Sinner and Alcaraz have cemented themselves as the top two stars in Post-Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal era. Novak Djokovic has proven that he could still win the Grand Slam titles, but he has not won since the 2023 US Open. He reached the semi -finals of each Grand Slam tournament this season.

While US open television stations were reportedly ordered to avoid showing disturbances in the crowd over Trump’s presence, Alcaraz was delighted to see Trump in the crowd.
“I think it is a privilege for the tournaments that has the president of each country just to support the tournament, to support tennis and support the match,” he said via The Guardian. “For me playing in front of him … I will try not to think about it.
“I don’t want me to be nervous because of it, but I think I’m attending the tennis match, it’s great for tennis to have the president in the final.”
Television networks set to broadcast Trump’s arrival at the event at Flushing Meadows in New York City were allegedly asked to refrain from broadcasting any boos or cheering to him.
Bounces, a tennis-focused substance, first reported that the US Tennis Association (USTA) sent the directive to the TV stations.

“With regard to broadcast coverage, the president appears on the World Feed and the Ashe Court feed during the opening of the anthemous ceremony,” the message allegedly reads. “We ask all TV stations to refrain from showing disturbances or reactions in response to the president’s participation in any capacity, including meadow [Electronic News Gathering] cover. “
Usta said it regularly asks its TV companies to avoid showing disturbances from the field.
