Trump repeats offers of mediation at Kashmir

Washington:

US President Donald Trump claimed credit again on Thursday for relaxing recent India-Pakistan tensions and saying he prevented a potential nuclear war by using trade pressure and direct diplomacy.

“I stopped a war between India and Pakistan, and I stopped it with trade,” Trump told journalists at a bill that signed. “Pakistan, now it was their turn to hit, and eventually they will become nuclear.”

Trump said he made personal calls to both Indian and Pakistani leaders at the height of tension. “I called every leader. I respect them a lot. I talked about trade. I said but you don’t deal with us if you want to go to war if you want to start throwing nuclear weapons around.”

“They understood it exactly. They stopped,” he added. He praised his role in preventing loss and said, “I stopped that war with phone calls and trade.” “And India is here right now and negotiating a trade agreement, and Pakistan is coming, I think next week,” he added.

In response to a question, Trump said, “We will gather them. I said to them, India and Pakistan … They have a long -standing rivalry over Kashmir. I said to them ‘I can solve something.’ “I want to be your arbitrator. I will be your arbitrator. I can solve something. “
