- Mentions Putin praised American mediation in global conflicts.
- Again complaining that he didn’t get the Nobel Peace Prize.
- Says he enjoys stopping wars, but he also has to lead the United States.
US President Donald Trump said he has ended eight global conflicts in the past eight months, citing Pakistan-India and Gaza, and called the Pakistan-Afghanistan clashes “an easy one” to resolve during talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House.
“… even though I understand that Pakistan attacked or there is an attack going on with Afghanistan. That’s easy for me to solve if I have to solve it,” the US president said. He said that while he was responsible for leading the United States, he really enjoyed ending wars and bringing peace to areas of conflict.
He said that while he was responsible for leading the United States, he really enjoyed ending wars and bringing peace to areas of conflict.
“All these wars had nothing to do with us, but I saved tens of millions of lives. The Prime Minister of Pakistan said I saved millions of lives by interceding for Pakistan, and you look at Pakistan and India as an example. That would have been a bad one, two nuclear nations, right?” he said.
“I’ve resolved eight conflicts, including the Middle East. This [Ukraine-Russia] I thought would have been among the easiest. [Russian President Vladimir] Putin mentioned yesterday – Armenia, you know, all the different wars.”
He said it was great, but the big one that he was surprised we could settle on was the Middle East.
Zelensky came to Washington to seek arms to bolster his country’s forces in Ukraine’s three-year-old conflict with Russia. However, Trump often highlighted his peace summit with Putin, which took place just weeks earlier, when he and Zelenskiy spoke to reporters.
That meeting came together quickly on Thursday, making it clear that Trump remains committed to brokering a peace deal and taking the air out of Zelenskiy’s missile trajectory.
Before his private lunch meeting with Zelenskiy, Trump said the two leaders would discuss his call with Putin the day before. He again reiterated his belief that his efforts deserve the Nobel Peace Prize.
“It’s funny how people say if you get this one they forget it every time I do one. I solved eight wars. Go to Rwanda and Congo. Talk about India and Pakistan.”
“Look at Thailand. Every time I solve one, they say, ‘If you solve the next one, you get the Nobel Prize.'” I didn’t get a Nobel Prize.
“Who got it, who is a very nice woman, very nice. I don’t know who she is, but she was very generous,” Trump said.
Dissolver of wars
Last week, Trump had said he was aware of the escalating tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan and claimed he would address the situation when he returned from the Middle East, describing himself as “good at solving wars.”
“This will be my eighth war that I’ve solved, and I hear there’s now a war going on between Pakistan and Afghanistan. I said I’ll have to wait until I get back. I’m doing another one. Because I’m good at solving wars,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One as he began a flight from Washington to Israel.
“Think about India, Pakistan. Think about some of the wars that were going on for years. We had one going on for 31, one for 32, one for 37 years, with millions of people killed in each country, and I got every one of them done, mostly, within a day. That’s pretty good…,” he added.
‘Man of Peace’
At a press conference in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, following the signing of the Gaza peace accord, Prime Minister Shehbaz described President Trump as a “true man of peace” who had worked relentlessly and tirelessly to end global conflicts, including the war in Gaza.
Joined by the US president and other global leaders, the prime minister said the world was witnessing “one of the greatest days in modern history”.
“He has brought peace not only to South Asia and saved millions of lives, but also to the Middle East through his efforts in Gaza.”
The prime minister noted that peace had been achieved after months of tireless diplomatic efforts led by President Trump, which has made the world “a place to live in peace and prosperity.”
He hailed Trump as “the man the world needed most at this time,” adding that history would remember him as the leader who “stopped seven and today eight wars.”
“Had it not been for this gentleman [Trump]” said Shehbaz, “a full-scale war between two nuclear powers could have broken out. His timely intervention averted disaster.”
The Prime Minister concluded by saying that Trump’s “visionary and exemplary leadership” had made him a symbol of hope and peace for the world and that his name “will be remembered in golden words.”
