WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump warned on Monday that Washington will impose on Russia on Timb rates within 10 days, unless Moscow is taking steps to end his three -year war in Ukraine.

Trump said to journalists aboard the Air Force One and said he had not heard back from Russian officials and signaled that time was running out.

He also brushed concerns about oil prices and said the United States could increase its own production to compensate for any influence.

“I don’t know if it will affect Russia because (Russian President Vladimir Putin) of course probably wants to keep the war going,” Trump said. “But we want to put tariffs on and the different things you put on.”

The US president, who has previously talked about having a good relationship with Putin, has grown more and more frustrated by Moscow’s refusal to agree on a ceasefire. The fresh deadline suggests that Trump is now ready to act after his threat of sanctions after he previously hesitates.

When he spoke in Scotland on Monday, he threatened sanctions against both Russia and countries that continue to buy its exports – also known as secondary sanctions – unless progress is made.

US Finance Minister Scott Bessent told journalists he had raised the issue of secondary sanctions with Chinese officials for two days of bilateral conversations this week.

He said he warned Chinese officials that Beijing could face steep tariffs if it continued to buy Russian oil.

In a post on X, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said, a close ally of Putin, Trump played “A game Ultimatums” that could lead to a war involving the United States.

Trump, who is also facing pressure to secure a peace agreement in Gaza, has promoted his role in resolving past conflicts between India and Pakistan as well as Rwanda and Congo. Before returning to the White House in January, the Trump had the campaign after a promise to end the Russia-Ukraine war in a single day.
