- CPU and RAM details about iPhone 17 are leaked
- Not all the rumors we’ve seen agree on these specifications
- The handset should be revealed in September
It is likely that we are only a few months away from the launch of the iPhone 17, and we now have a new leak showing two of the most important specifications in the base model – though only one is set to be an upgrade from the iPhone 16.
According to analyst Jeff PU (via 9TO5MAC), Standard iPhone 17 gets an upgrade to a new A19 chip along with iPhone 17 air. Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will jump up to the A19 Pro.
That’s good news because PU had previously predicted that the basic model iPhone 17 would stick to the same A18 chip currently sitting inside the iPhone 16. It’s a trick Apple also withdrawn in 2022 with the iPhone 14 series.
There is a case that needs to be made that modern iPhones are more than quick enough for most users for most tasks, and perhaps sticking to an older chip would mean that an iPhone 17-pricing fall it no longer looks like the A18 chip will be recycled.
While PU now believes that a chipset upgrade will happen, he has also repeated that the Standard iPhone 17 will have 8 GB of RAM matching the iPhone 16.
Earlier rumors had suggested that the iPhone 17 would join the iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max in having more RAM than their predecessors, but this latest report seems to be a significant doubt about it.
More RAM would mean more thinking room for Apple Intelligence, and it seems weird that the iPhone 17 would stick to 8 GB, while the iPhone 17 Air gets 12 GB. However, nothing is official before Apple announces these handsets.
Reliable Apple Tipster and Bloomberg Reporter Mark Gurman has predicted that the iPhone 17 series gets its magnificent disclosure on Tuesday, September 9 or Wednesday, September 10, and we will of course keep you updated on more leaks and rumors before then.
