Peshawar:
Two new polio cases have been confirmed in the Districts of Lakki Marwat and North Waziristan in southern Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP), National Emergency Operations Center (Neoc) confirmed Monday. The latest cases bring the total number of polio infections in Pakistan this year to 26.
Neoc said that high quality vaccination campaigns were underway in southern KP to contain the virus. “Polio campaigns help protect children from this incurable disease,” it said, adding that fresh drives had begun in southern KP, Bajaur and Upper Dir.
Neoc said more than 1,685 million children under five would be targeted in this week’s campaign. “Parents are encouraged to make sure their children get polio drops in each campaign,” it said.
