“It’s like pushing, considered matches,” Mulkey said. “That (Smith’s reaction) was shocking. It hurt our team where she wasn’t part of tonight because we’re trying to develop her. My old mentor (formerly Louisiana Tech trainer), Leon Barmore, always said, That you’ve got to keep a cool head in a hot game.

Mulkey also gave a nod to the game’s entertainment value: “I guess it was entertaining for the fans.”

Games resume after the broadcasts, with Oklahoma leading 12-11. Soners took advantage of 6-foot-2 Smith’s advantage to keep it close and gather from a 24-point deficit late in the third quarter to get within a point in the last minute.

In the third quarter, Mulkey dropped a clipboard that assistant coach Seimone Augustus had. LSU enjoyed a 67-45 lead at the time. Mulkey continued to shout and point for several seconds while Augustus seemed to fight with a brief moment of shock.

The judges later assessed a technical error after Tigers’ coach argued for a bad call against Star Guard Flau’jae Johnson. Oklahoma coach Jennie Baranczyk also received a technical at another time in the game.

The Chippy game ended with a total of five technical errors and 63 free throwing attempts.

“We saw a lot of things tonight,” Mulkey said. “You saw sprayers. You saw two teams score over 100. You saw a technical on the other flopp … I got teed up and she told me I was going to point the big screen. I definitely looked at it Big screen and I wasn’t really happy, but I don’t know if I’m pointing.

Tigers’ 107-100 win over the soon-to-be seventh ranked LSU’s record to 22-1.
