Chicago Bears may have Caleb Williams as the future at Quarterback, but the inauguration of his backup, Tyson Bagent, led to General Manager Ryan Poles giving him a reported two-year contract extension of $ 10 million.
This decision brought Bagent to tears during its press conference Wednesday.
Of course, this is not a record -breaking contract, but with a maximum value of $ 16 million including incentives could not contain how he felt about making such a large sum of money.

“Many people don’t know this, but my father is my right man,” Bagent told journalists while dried tears away. “He did not have running water before high school, so there are certainly many people I can definitely help with this gift I have been blessed with. It is definitely a weight from my shoulders and my family’s shoulders.”
The 25-year-old was a non-drawn free agent out of Shepherd, a Division II College, in 2023. He worked his way up Bears’ depth cards during training camp that year and served himself the backup role behind Justin Fields.

When Fields went down with an injury that year, Bagen started four games and he won his first for Chicago. He became the first incomprehensible Division II -Quarterback to start in a game since 1950.
Bagent went 2-2 over this span, but when the bears had the first overall choice in last year’s NFL draft, it was clear where the poles and the whole organization went with it.

Williams was prepared by the USC to be their hopeful franchise -quarterback, but Bagent shone again in training camp to keep his backup role.
However, it was another animal to come in this season because a new sheriff – or rather, a new head coach – was in Chicago.
Ben Johnson, the SUS offensive coordinator from the Detroit Lions, accepted the main coach position. So Bagent had to prove its value in this year’s training camp to solidify his role behind Williams.
Not only did he perform the mission, but his work ethics and production have clearly impressed the organization.

During the Bears ’38 -0-Seasonal Route for Buffalo Bills this last weekend, Bagent Chicago led to three straight scoring drives after Williams delivered a strong excursion under the middle. Bagent went 13-of-22 in 196 yards with a passing touchdown in the victory.
Bagent knows that he will have to be ready for a moment if Williams can’t perform his quarterback tasks during the 2025 season. But so far, the young man is grateful that his hard work has literally paid off.
