Dan Hurley’s return to Storrs, Connecticut, for the upcoming season was far less safe than many may have thought.
In the new book, “Never Stop: Life, Leadership and What It Toing To Be Great,” As Hurley was co-author, the two-time winning trainer revealed that the stress he experienced under Huskies’ persecution of a third consecutive title almost caused him to go away.
While Hurley is expected to be back on the sidelines when Uconn’s season 2025-26 season tip, he admitted in the book he “was completely cooked”, once last season ended.

After bringing Huskies to Back-to-Back NCAA Division in the Men’s Sournament Championships, Hurley faced questions about what went wrong when Florida defeated Uconn in the second round this last March.
According to the athletic, Hurley was considering leaving coaching due to exhaustion and taking about a year to physically and mentally recharge. The 52-year-old quoted the feeling of being burned out.
Uconns Dan Hurley Incorrect Criticism
“I knew my mind and I knew my body and I could feel that I was completely cooked,” Hurley wrote. “Just burned. I didn’t even know how I was standing. I was staring at the office walls, muttering, conducting a brutal review of our season. I didn’t build a strong enough list. I wasn’t a good leader. I all let down in Maui.
“I lost control emotionally at different points. I came in here for a few days sad and defeated when I needed to be positive and inspiring. Then I went through the self-mounding what-if we had played a little better in Maui? What if we hadn’t blown that game against Seton Hall? Who knows? “Who knows?”

Uconn finished the 2024-25 season with a 24-11 record.
Hurley accepted a six-year contract extension with Uconn last year. The deal was completed after Hurley reportedly rejected a six-year offer from Los Angeles Lakers to become a franchise’s next head coach.

Recently, Hurley’s name was linked to New York Knicks as the team searched for Tom Thibodeau’s replacement. Hurley eventually closed these rumors. “Not another summer with it,” Hurley told Hartford Courant in June.
