The United Kingdom has announced plans to elaborate and strengthen relations with the EU, especially with regard to research and innovation projects on technology.
The news will see the United Kingdom launch a nationwide advertising campaign and a series of road shows in the hope of attracting researchers to participate in the EU’s pioneering research program, Horizon Europe.
Horizon Europe, which is the largest program for research collaboration in the world, has a budget of almost 100 billion euros. The program has five missions; Adaptation to climate change, cancer research, ocean restore and waters, building climate-neutral and smart cities and recovery and protection of the Earth’s health.
An innovation power center
The United Kingdom is not the only non-EU nation participating in Horizon Europe, with other partnerships, including South Korea, New Zealand and Norway.
To further increase the cooperation, the United Kingdom is also set to participate in four European research infrastructure consortia (ERics). These gather the brightest minds of the continent to promote ‘deep and high quality links’.
By participating in these research programs, not only the UK will hope to benefit from the results of the research projects by developing climate -friendly practices and protection, but also in forging collaborative relationships with the best researchers around the world.
“There is no question about it: We have our best chance of tackling the major challenges of our era, from climate change to public health, to growing economies that work for everyone by bringing the brightest minds from all over Britain and the European Union, together, ”said British science and technology secretary, Peter Kyle.
“The United Kingdom is determined to give our researchers, innovators and businesses the opportunities and platforms they need to bring their good ideas to life in favor of all of us – all highlighted by our new Horizon ad campaign. I am glad to have had such fruitful conversations with my European friends and colleagues about taking this important partnership even more. “
