UMPQUA Community College Softball Team Trainer, Plays Killed In Deadly Car Accident

ONE College softball player And her coach is dead after their team bus was involved in a front-on collision in Oregon while traveling home from a game, school staff and law enforcement confirmed this weekend.

Kiley Jones, a beginner at Umpqua Community College’s softball team, and head coach Jami Strinz was tragically killed on Friday night when the team’s bus was hit by another vehicle while driving home from a game in Coos Bay, Oregon.

“We are deeply sad to confirm that one of our student athletes, Kiley Jones, and one of our coaches, Jami Strinz, lost their lives in the accident. Additional staff and students remain in hospitals in Eugene and Portland. Racel Pokr, and we said in a statement.

“These individuals were loved members of our campus-an extraordinary student athlete and a passionate and talented coach. Our entire society takes care of this tragic loss and our inner compassion is with their families, teammates and loved ones. We ask that you keep them in your thoughts and offer privacy for families in this difficult time.

According to an accident report from Oregon State Police, Strinz team bus drove around 2 p.m. 21.56, when a driver in a Chevrolet Silverado driving in the opposite direction crossed the center line into the track, the bus traveled in and hit them its head.

Jones, 19, was declared dead on stage, and Strinz, 46, was taken to the hospital in critical condition where she later died. There were 10 members of the softball team on the bus at the time of the crash.

It is said that eight other people on the bus maintained “moderate to serious injuries.”

The driver of Chevrolet Silverado, 32-year-old Johnathan James Dowdy, suffered “serious injuries” and was transported to a hospital in the area. The investigation of the deadly crash remains in progress, Law enforcement said.

Jones played the first base in his 28 appearances for the team. Strinz was named “First Header in Program History” this season. She leaves behind her partner Steve Williams and their daughter, Sari, according to the team’s website.

Oregon Gov. Tina KOKEK released a statement about X and said, “My heart is sorry for the @umumquacc family that is rolled from this tragedy. Oregon is here for you in your grief and loss. You are in my prayers. Many thanks to @orstatepolice and other emergency response people for their compassionate reaction.”

Umpqua Community College Softball Team Canceled both matches Saturday after the tragic deaths. They have to play next on Friday.
