Bill Belichick’s coaching debut in college football began with a roaring start, but came down when TCU ran up the scoring at his UNC Tar Heels, 48-14, Monday night.
During his first press conference after Game, Belichick was his normal stoic himself as he was when he coached New England Patriots. But this time was justified, considering that there was not much to talk about positively after starting with an opening -driven touchdown and letting the momentum slip Horned Frogs’ way for the rest of the game.
Belichick, surrounded by “The Tackiest” Ballon-Arch background, said Tar Heels should simply be better in every phase.

“It was a great atmosphere for the game here tonight. The fans had a huge energy,” Belichick said in his opening markings. “We played competitively, and then just couldn’t maintain it. So we obviously have a lot of work to do. We have to do a better job all around – coaching, playing, all three stages of the game. Just wasn’t up to what it should be and we’re much better than that. We have to work on these things and show it Saturday on a short turn.
“Give tcu -credit, they came in and did a good job. They were clearly the better team tonight. They deserved to win and they made it decisive.”

There was some obvious national reaction to watching Belichicks Tar Heels beat home Monday night, with some pointing to the fact that his worst loss ever in the NFL was a 38-3 defeat to Dallas Cowboys at 2023. This chapter.
Some fans also avoided his girlfriend, 24-year-old Jordon Hudson, and were discovered on the sidelines and talked to him before kickoff.

CBS Sports College football writer John Talty even asked if Tar Heels played for their coach after the deficit became so big.
“This is a straight up Whuppin ‘,” he wrote on X. “Steve Belichick’s defense looks like it’s ended out there against TCU.… This is a straight up embarrassing performance from Bill Belichick’s team. The effort levels are cruel.”
It would always be a challenge for Belichick, regardless of his resume, to turn the Tar Heels program right away. There were over 70 transfers coming to Chapel Hill and putting together a new program with new schemes certainly will not happen right away.

But with pomp and circumstance that Monday night as well as the national light, this start for UNC was not what football fans are used to from a Belichick-driven team.
As he mentioned, it is a short week for Tar Heels who will play Saturday against Charlotte 49ers.
